Team 9
Before we conclude this page, we want to briefly turn to the wildcard team in the XFL and its purpose.
Team 9 acts a feeder squad in the competition. It has its own roster and features in regular practice games. All of the eight XFL teams will be able to boost their rosters from Team 9’s pool to fill vacated slots or to provide cover in injury situations.
The team shares facilities with the Dallas Renegades but will have its own coaching staff headed by Bart Andrus.
During the opening two weeks of the season, XFL teams are able to take their pick from Team 9’s roster but can also sign players who are not part of the league. When the competition enters its third week, XFL teams are no longer allowed to fill up with players outside of the league and can only look to the Team 9 roster for reinforcements.
After the conclusion of week 5, the league will oversee the allocation of 40 players from Team 9 to the XFL’s eight teams. This will increase the teams’ roster size to 57 players. After the allocation, Team 9’s roster will be reloaded with 36 players. These athletes will be eligible for a call-up to any of the other eight teams until the end of the season.
